European electricity market integration

The coordinated calculation of cross-border electricity transmission capacity and allocation to market participants form the basis of the integrated European internal electricity market. The aim is to harmonize cross-border electricity markets from long-term planning to real-time settlement. An interconnected and efficient European electricity market safeguards the use of the most efficient resources, thereby safeguarding reliability of supply at the lowest cost for European consumers.

Due to its geographical location, Germany is at the center of European electricity transit. Amprion has interconnection lines to five neighboring countries and coordinates electricity trading at these borders within the association of European electricity network operators. As part of a number of international European initiatives, Amprion employees are actively involved in the further development and integration of the European electricity markets.
