Amprion Sustainability Report 2025: Amprion’s core business rated almost entirely “green” under the EU Taxonomy

Amprion has implemented the new EU standards for sustainability reporting two years before it is legally required to do so. Over the past year, Amprion has achieved further progress in the area of sustainability, including in reducing CO2 emissions and in sustainable economic activity.

By 2030, Amprion plans to invest around 42 billion euros in the transmission grid. With its grid expansion, Amprion is making a decisive contribution to achieving Germany’s climate targets. This entails a strong societal, social and environmental responsibility.

For five years now, Amprion has documented the respective developments in its Sustainability Report. For the first time, the report is being published in line with the new EU standards: the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) set binding rules for the sustainability reporting of European companies. Amprion has implemented these requirements two years prior to becoming legally binding.

To improve comparability, the fields of action have been adjusted: the former five fields of action have been consolidated into the three new categories “Environment”, “People” and “Corporate Governance”. Within these categories, Amprion reports key figures, measures and targets to make its operations and grid expansion sustainable. “For us, sustainability is far more than empty word. It is an integral part of our business model,” says Peter Rüth, CFO of Amprion. “By implementing the new EU standards, we ensure greater transparency and comparability in sustainability reporting.”

CO2 emissions reduction

The reduction of CO2 emissions is at the heart of Amprion’s sustainability activities. By 2032, these emissions and their intensity are to be reduced by around 60 percent. Amprion has defined several measures to achieve this goal. These include, among others, increasing energy efficiency and electrifying buildings and vehicles, as well as reducing emissions in grid expansion projects.

Amprion’s business model is “green” by its very nature

The European Union (EU) has set itself the goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050. With the Taxonomy Regulation, the EU has defined criteria under which economic activities are considered environmentally sustainable. The regulation serves as a transparency tool for the financial market and companies. According to the requirements of the EU Taxonomy Regulation, more than 98 percent of Amprion’s revenues and investments (CapEx) were environmentally sustainable. Amprion’s core business – the transmission of electricity, increasingly from renewable energy sources – is “green” by its very nature.

Social engagement in the region

In addition to its core business, Amprion makes an active contribution in the region. Through social activities, Amprion promotes equal opportunities and access to education. Projects are supported if they demonstrably contribute to equal opportunities and education, are rooted in a region within Amprion’s business area, and form part of a balanced funding portfolio.
