Water conservation at Amprion

Amprion pays a great deal of attention to protecting the groundwater. Special importance is attached to water conservation at switchgear and substations: transformers and reactors are filled with oil used to cool and insulate them. For this reason, all installations are equipped with containment (capture) and protection facilities. For example, a transformer is always positioned on oil-proof drainage surfaces with associated containment basins. These prevent oil from seeping into the ground or contaminating waterbodies in the event of a leakage.

Our transformers are also connected to monitoring devices that send their data to our permanently manned control room, enabling our maintenance team to react immediately to any incidents. Sites located close to streams, rivers, lakes or designated water protection zones are subject to special requirements under water legislation, which we take fully into account when designing our installations.
