Balancing areas

Balancing areas
Uniform identification of DSO balancing areas

Up to the present time, the grid region of a distribution system operator (DSO) has generally also been its balancing area. This grid region is given an unequivocal identification code by the transmission system operator (TSO) who is responsible for the control area. Due to the changes in the liberalised electricity market, however, there have been more and more shifts between system operators in terms of property law and process flows so that the original grid region does no longer necessarily coincide with the balancing area of the DSO.

To ensure that all market partners will be able to clearly identify the balancing areas in the future, too, an ETSO identification code (EIC) has been planned for all control areas to define and identify the DSO balancing areas in analogy to the proven "EIC" for balancing groups.

The TSO responsible for the control area assigns the numerical "EIC" for a DSO balancing area. The nomenclature has been chosen so as to ensure the unequivocal identification of the balancing area even across control areas. The number group for Amprion GmbH begins with "11YR". This code has a total of 16 digits, the last digit being used as a check digit.

The balancing areas of the control area of Amprion GmbH are as follows:

DSO balancing areas (XLS | 108 KB)

DSO balancing areas (CSV | 36 KB)
